Spectacular fireworks lit up the Corniche and the West Bay sky last night in a fitting finale to the Qatar National Day celebrations.
For almost 15 minutes from the scheduled time of 8pm, a riot of colours enveloped the city sky, accompanied by the sound of fireworks.
Hundreds thronged the Corniche to see the impressive fireworks, and it was clearly evident that it had succeeded in providing excitement to all.
Among them were many children, women and people of all age groups. Many were seen holding Qatar’s national flag while others had scarves and caps that aptly read “I love Qatar”.
As soon as the display got underway, cheering could be heard all along the Corniche, with youngsters being the most vocal in expressing their delight.
Some of the residents in their vehicles stopped for the show and stationed themselves appropriately for a clear view of the fireworks.
Many others who also came to witness the spectacular display struggled for vantage space around the Corniche and in the West Bay area as these were all occupied by those who had turned up well in advance.
“The Doha skyline beneath the riot of colours was an incredible sight,” said a resident, who watched the fireworks.
The organisers had worked hard to put up a grand show and going by the scale of the show, it was clearly a job well done. The colours over the Doha night sky provided a “memorable sight” and it could also be seen from many other places in the city.
