Qatar is planning to develop an Airport City to enhance commercial and business activities in the Gulf state by creating a platform between capital Doha and the new Hamad International Airport, national dailyGulf Times reported.
The Airport City concept is “targeted at optimised development of the transport hub of an airport and its surrounding airside and landside supporting functions,” Hamad International Airport said in a statement.
The 10 sqkm project will be completed in about 30 years, with a first phase operating by 2022. A Business District and an Aviation Campus with the headquarters of Qatar Airways and of the Civil Aviation Authority are scheduled to be developed in the next ten years.
Qatari-owned private aviation company Rizon Jet is interested in developing facilities in the area, Rizon Jet CEO, Hassan Al Mousawi, told Arabian Business Qatar.
The Airport City will count a total of four zones including a Logistics District and a Residential District. Parks and outdoor amenities along with boulevards and promenades are included in the project.
The US$15bn Hamad International Airport is scheduled to open in April 1.
