Msheireb in Qatar, designed by Aecom, won the ‘Future Award of the Year’ award at the World Architecture Festival this year.

Aiming to create a modern Qatari homeland that is rooted in traditional culture, the project is located in inner Doha, forming part of a strategic gateway for the city from the West.

It lies between two key routes into the city, extending through the oldest Doha and onto the existing airport as well as the future airport proposed for Qatar.

The concept of the grid and lattice is fundamental to the master plan of the project, designed to evoke memories, the lattice capturing the incidental qualities of the community.

The grid symbolises the paradigm of Western cities, while combined with the lattice forms the bedrock of the master plan, providing continuity between the past and future.
